Kangaroos!

Emily was complaining that we had been in Australia for over three months and she still had not gotten to see any of the iconic Australian animals. So yesterday, we went to the local zoo for a couple of hours and saw koalas, emus, crocodiles, Tasmanian devils, bearded dragons, lace monitors, echidnas, dingoes and, of course, kangaroos. The roos were the best. They were so tame you could go in their enclosures and pet them. They would approach you very timidly and gently eat grain out of your hands (you could purchase a little paper sack of grain at the ticket counter for a dollar). I was really surprised by how soft they were. It was really fun to pet them and feed them.

Just across from the kangaroos, there was a pen full of barnyard animals. When one of the billy goats saw I had some grain he ran over put his front legs on the top of his fence and started shaking his head up and down as if to say “get over here and give me some of that!” I walked over, “ok, ok, here you go little fella.” Just as I was reaching into my bag to get him some grain that little scoundrel leaned over the fence and snatched the bag right out of my hand, and before I could snatch it back he ran over to the other side of his pen and ate the whole thing - bag and all! You could tell by the way he did it that he had done that little trick many times before. Sneaky little devil. I was so mad I wanted get in there and give him a spankin with a switch. I couldn’t believe I’d been outsmarted by a goat! Emily just thought it was funny. Oh well, that’s life I guess.

Here are some pictures of us with the kangaroos (no goat pictures though!)

Fun stuff! Emily, glad you got to see Kangaroos and other Aussie animals finally! :) Corey... too funny about the goat, guess it's not just the Aussies who like to tease you, it's the Aussie animals too! -LIV

At least nothing spit at you or bit you. So far I've been spit on by a llama in Peru and bit on the back by a horse in Waxahachie (that's near here by the way)! Don't know what it is about me that brings out the anger in these animals!! ha

Love you guys,

Debbie
